Check an image for signs of AI generation

Upload a photo to check for signs of AI generation. The online check is free and requires no account.

The result keeps verified declarations separate from model estimates and explains what each signal can—and cannot—establish.

How the check works

How to check a photo for AI generation

Select an image or drag it into the upload area. After the check, open the evidence and detailed results to see which signals were found and which checks ran.

EvidPic analyzes the image with several models. The report shows their assessments, including where they disagree. It separately looks for generator markers and information about the file’s origin.

Compression, screenshots, resizing and editing can affect the models' assessments. Treat their results as supporting evidence, not proof that AI was used.

Inside the file

What metadata can tell you

A file may contain information about where it came from and how it was edited: signed C2PA Content Credentials, a label from an AI generator, camera details or the name of an editing app.

These details vary in reliability. For example, anyone can change an app name stored in EXIF metadata. EvidPic shows where each piece of evidence came from and whether it passed verification.

If this information is missing, that doesn't mean the image came from a camera. Sharing, exporting or taking a screenshot can strip it away.

What the results mean

Is the photo real or AI-generated? Reading the results

Start with any information about the image's origin stored in the file, and check whether it was verified. Then compare the models' assessments and review the technical clues.

The score reflects how strong the detected signs of AI use are. It is not the probability that the image was AI-generated.

If an important decision depends on the result, keep the original file and check where it was published. Automated checks can help you investigate an image. A check alone cannot establish who created it or how.
